A compact week with many treats, this Wednesday afternoon will bring us the interesting sounding ALMOST AMERICAN, the next big Batman even with FEAR STATE ALPHA, and on the book side it's been a really long time since there has been an affordable color paperback version of the classic VAULT OF HORROR, and everyone should have some ECs in their collection! Oooh, great week of comics coming on Wednesday! For the periodicals, without question the book of the week is JH William's ECHOLANDS. On the book side, we adore Ted Naifeh's WITCH FOR HIRE, and we're strangely compelled to put MAYOR GOOD BOY as our kid's follow-up. Once again it looks like UPS shipping problems may delay new comics until Wed afternoon, argh, UPS work it out already! The third Milestone book, HARDWARE, looks like the lead periodical, but there's also DEFENDERS from Marvel. And Zoe would probably punch me if I didn't put CHEER UP: LOVE AND POM POMS up here. Looking good to us this week is LOST ON PLANET EARTH, next month's Graphic Novel Club selection, and we're intrigued by Skottie Young's THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK, while there is a lot of pent up anticipation for the next ADVENTURE ZONE. We're the most excited for THE DIRE DAYS OF WILLOWWEEP MANOR, book that will be our new Kids Club selection, but was so funny that ALL of adult staff here loved and laughed. On the periodicals side, BERMUDA looks pretty good, and getting a last taste of Grant Morrison on DC is always good with SUPERMAN & THE AUTHORITY. The most interesting looking periodical launch to this observer this week is MAMO, but Marvel would point you to X-MEN, Image to SKYBOUND X and DC to JUSTICE LEAGUE INFINITY. And that's just the new launches! There's so much more just below the cut... what looks good to YOU?

It's that rare week of new comics where we're more fired up for a stack of books than the periodicals -- especially CHIBI USAGI, ah so cute! Comics are arriving late this week to most of the Bay Area, so maybe call first before you start the trip to be sure we actually have them -- DC comics currently show as being in New Mexico with no scheduled delivery date (!), and the Diamond shipment indicates Wednesday delivery, and we'll need a bit of time to work the shipment before they're up for sale. Hopefully all ready by 1p, but let's see what UPS brings us!

BUT, it's a nice big week of funny books, so when they finally come you've got many great things this week! DC's next big crossover event dealie kicks off this week with INFINITE FRONTIER, Marvel gives us their MARVELS VOICES PRIDE anthology, and let's give it up for Todd McFarlane and his launching SPAWN UNIVERSE twenty-nine years of the main title! Wow, big diverse week of funnybooks! We like the look of COMPASS, like the premise of SAVE YOURSELF, and are excited for the return of STATIC SEASON ONE... But that's just the tiniest portion of this particular week of comics! Get thee behind the jump and tell us what looks good to YOU?

Not a ton of new periodical releases this week, and SIX SIDEKICKS OF TRIGGER KEATON looks the most promising to me, and as a perverse person, I'll go with the over of CHERRY BLACKBIRD as wanting me to take a look. On the book side, there are multiple Geoff Darrow stories coming back to print this week, but I have to give the edge to MIGHTY MMW AMAZING SPIDER-MAN GREAT POWER GN TP which is the first 10 issues of 1962's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (plus AMAZING FANTASY #15) for a measly $16. Knowing Marvel this will go out of print before the end of the year, so snap it up while you can, sez Hibbs! There's a lot of other comics coming out this week, all behind the jump….what looks good to YOU?

Another sterling week of comical books! The lead book is almost certainly James Tynion's THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE -- what a swell read! This week also starts the X-Men "Gala" crossover with three tie-in releases. Finally, we're pretty up for the newest Katie O'Neill book with TEA DRAGON TAPESTRY, scrummy!
