There's actually a solid amount of real comics coming out this week, despite us still being in curbside-only mode by the City of San Francisco. Despite the obvious B-word choices this week, I think the most interesting things coming out this week are ADVENTUREMAN from Fraction & Dodson, or possibly the dirty ol' FAITHLESS II from Azarello & Llovet. If you like that Conan action, then maybe it is that Euro-comics CIMMERIAN: RED NAILS. Many swell things on the book-side: 920LONDON or the new edition of LUTHER ARKWRIGHT (yay!!!), or not even on this list but something we got last week: CHECK PLEASE v2.

Not a ton of debuts this week, but we think the week's "sure thing" is the new Jonathan Hickman joint: DECORUM, but we're sure at least some people are excited for franchise expansions: X-book with CABLE, and STAR WARS with BOUNTY HUNTERS. On the book side of the world, it's youth facing: ALL MY FRIENDS ARE GHOSTS, a new DC SUPERHERO GIRLS, and the first volume of ADVENTURE FINDERS. So much more under the cut…..What looks good to YOU?

Its a small, but super-packed week. The major hit of the week is clearly the Tom King / Mitch Gerads STRANGE ADVENTURES, but we also really liked JOIN THE FUTURE, STRANGE ACADEMY, KING OF NOWHERE, the new anthology series MARVEL, and CIMMERIAN QUEEN OF BLACK COAST. Another great week for periodical comics! for debuts, we like the looks of AMETHYST, FINGER GUNS, and GIANT-SIZE X-MEN. We also think TOMORROW and HIDDEN SOCIETY from Dark Horse look worth checking out. But there’s much much more under the jump — what looks good to YOU?

What an oddly shaped week! So many comics shipping and so few books! I see many new debuts for you to take a look at, probably led by the relaunch of WOLVERINE, or DCEASED: THE UNKILLABLES, but I also like the look of BANG!, MARVEL VOICES, PLUNGE, GODKILLERS and ON THE STUMP.... yow, so many comics! Nice broad week with many favorites! For new series, the obvious standout is GREEN LANTERN SEASON TWO, but I know many folks are also looking forward to HARLEY QUINN & THE BIRDS OF PREY, and there's also lots of love for Boom's ALIENATED. On the book side, everyone in the world should have a copy of WHAT'S MICHAEL in their collection, there's a new middle reader ZATANNA & THE HOUSE OF SECRETS, and I'm certainly curious for the adaptation of Wes Anderson's ISLE OF DOGS. It is one of those weeks with a number of fine releases, but not a ton of NEW series starting up. I think my suggestions this week will begin with the next issue of QUESTION: THE DEATHS OF VIC SAGE, the conclusion of SECOND COMING (Mark Russell is here in person NEXT Wednesday at 5p!), and, sure, why not VENOM: THE END (promises, promises). On the book side of the universe, I quite liked GREEN LANTERN: LEGACY for kids, NO LONGER HUMAN by Junji Ito for adults, and why not OVER MY DEAD BODY OGN? Much more under the jump! The first full week of New Comics for the New Year brings about many new title launches! Just some of them include CLOCK with art by the great Colleen Doran, a new PINK LEMONADE, a new STRANGER THINGS mini and FIREFLY one shot. There's also also a new issue of the loverly TONGUES, and the kick off of DC's new HB/70s artists crossovers: DAPHNE BYRNE. Much more below the jump; what looks good to YOU?

New Comics Day on New Year's Day starts off with a strong Marvel week for launches: Matt Rosenberg's HAWKEYE: FREEFALL, Donny Cates' THOR, and the new "Empire Strikes Back" era STAR WARS. The book side leans more DC: Shannon Hale's DIANA PRINCESS OF THE AMAZON, Greg Rucka's BIRDS OF PREY HUNTRESS (not what it was called originally... and those chains on the new costume seem VERY impractical, right?), and let's round it out with a new NATHAN HALE'S HAZARDOUS TALES: MAJOR IMPOSSIBLE. It is seriously the biggest shipment week of periodicals that I've seen in.... well, several years! So big I'm going to forgo the usual Reading of the Number Ones, and just point you to the list itself. You WILL find one or more comics to buy this week under the cut, by crikey! WHAT LOOKS GOOD TO YOU?

The first wave of huge-weeks-right-before-Christmas starts now (my pull list was 40% larger than usual!) with a massive incoming week! The winner of the Intriguing New Launches contest this week goes to DKR: THE GOLDEN CHILD, with RED MOTHER #1 close behind. And why not LUCY CLAIRE: REDEMPTION #1 behind that? On the Book side of the world, the huge winner must be HOUSE OF X / POWERS OF X in HC, but the "huger" winner goes to the treasury format version of SILVER SURFER: BLACK. Don't want a recent Marvel book? The pick up the KABUKI OMNIBUS for some yummy David Mack work. So so so so SO much more below the cut -- what looks good to you?

Possibly the darkest set of first issues I've ever seen -- especially the week before Thanksgiving -- but you play the hand you're dealt, I suppose. The nicest looking debut is probably KILLADELPHIA, but I also know a ton of people crazy-excited for a new SPACE RIDERS, and also for HELLBLAZER #1. On the book side we're doing a bit lighter -- nice looking Auto bio in PLATE TECTONICS, or, mm, "classic action", maybe? with finally-in-print editions of SECTION ZERO or DOC FRANKENSTEIN. There's lots of other things, too, behind the jump -- what looks good to YOU?

Interesting looking week, filled with many diverse things! I'm probably most excited about QUESTION: THE DEATHS OF VIC SAGE with art by Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz, but Maria Llovet's HEARTBEAT also looks keen, and does a new Umbrella Academy story with HAZEL & CHA CHA SAVE CHRISTMAS. On the book side, the clear winners are LITTLE BIRD (our December GN Club selection) and COURAGEOUS PRINCESS (our January Kids GNC pick!), and I also sense a fair amount of anticipation for the first trade of BLADE RUNNER 2019. A very fine and strong week of comics! My pick for the week will be FAR SECTOR by N.K. Jemisin & Jamal Campbell, with Brian K Vaughan & Marco Martin's LCSD WALKING DEAD (on sale on Saturday!) close behind. Plus Garth Ennis returns to PUNISHER: SOVIET? Yes please! On the book side of the universe, we've got THE HOUSE by Paco Roca in English *and* Spanish releases -- that is our Nov selection for the Graphic Novel of the Month Club (www.graphicnovelclub.com/start) -- and WONDER TWINS (Our, er, January selection), and for something not a club pick, let's go with the FIREFLY: STING original GN?
