The Savage Critic: January 3rd 2003
By Brian Hibbs

Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends.

As the comics came on Friday this week, and like I already told you, there is no Critic this week. Well, not a real one.

Here’s the “what arrived” list, as well as the picks – a full, “real” Critic will return next week with both Jeff Lester and myself! Woo!

Thanks for all of the kind mail on the 2002 Year-Ender (which, if you haven’t read it, can be found here) – I know I begged for it, but ya’ll came through in spades.

And isn’t it *weird* that it is 2003? That seems so science-fictiony to me. Where are the robot maids and the flying cars? Huh. Looks like we got the dystopian future instead....

And, for even MORE completeness sake, here’s a list of books, TPBs, GNs, magazines, and other things that CE got this week. I generally haven’t read any of this by the time I post these reviews. Though I generally attempt to give at least one recommendation amongst the TPBs each week, since I HAVE read the material at SOME point.

This Week’s TP recommendation is: The final volume of Lone Wolf and Cub. Not like it had much competition. Anyway, the series is done, all 28 volumes out... if you were holding off because you weren’t sure if it would finish this time, you can now jump in. You’ll be very very happy

Pick of the Week:  My favorite book this week is Jason Yungbluth’s Weapon Brown – a peanuts parody set in a post-apocalyptic world. It works great as a post-apocalypse story, it works great as a Peanuts parody... it’s two two mints in one! Odds are sorta slender that your local store carries it (check with them first, though!) so if not, check it out at (http://www.whatisdeepfried.com/home.html)

Pick of the Weak:  Honest to god, there wasn’t anything I hated so much this week to smack with a hammer. I guess I still have some of that ol’ holiday spirit...

Next week: The Return of the King!
