"...are you experienced?"
San Francisco's
Premiere Comic Book Shop
This, like any links page, is a work in progress. But I’ve been talking about doing it for far too long, so it is probably better to get a partial and woefully incomplete links page up than nothing.
We very much welcome your suggestions for pages to link to – please e-mail your thoughts to brian@comixexperience.com and we’ll see what can be done.
The Comic
Book Legal Defense Fund: put up here before any other link because it is
an organization you should support.
Comicon’s
Splash: Rick Veitch’s news site is a great source for news and information
about the "real world" and comics.
Newsarama: Pretty much the best "daily feed" kind of news – if there is a comic publisher’s press release to be found, you’ll find it here, in a nice format, with instant comment threads.
The Pulse: Comicon's online news mag, put in place after Newsarama went to View Askew recently.
Comic Book Resources: Another good source for daily news and features about comics. Of particular interest is Rich Johnston's Lying In The Gutters. Every Monday, Rich prints rumors, gossip and, even more rumors, making it part of my weekly routine. This site also hosted Larry Young’s Loose Cannon column and Gail Simone’s You’ll All Be Sorry. If you search around in "resources", you’ll find a pretty nutty and comprehensive set of links for just about any obscuro comic book site you might want.
Silver Bullet Comics: Former home to Rich Johnston’s gossip column (now at Comic Book Resources). All the Rage is now being written by Ian Ungstad, and still has enough comic rumors to make it worth checking out each week. I just wish it didn’t have the annoying pop-ups.
Comic Shop News: Just like the freebie publication.
Comics Continuum: I think their design is a bit loud, but there’s good scoop here sometimes.
There
are THOUSANDS of these things, these are the ones Brian checks out (in order
of frequency) – I’m also not listing publisher boards that have other links
down below. You can find those by visiting those sites.
The Warren Ellis Forum: Pretty much THE place to discuss comics and comics activism. Run by a sometimes benevolent dictator (folks call Warren "Stalin"), the level of flaming juvenile idiots is amazingly low.
ComicCon’s Panels: Slightly worse signal-to-noise ratio, but interesting stuff appears from time to time. These boards also hold the commentary on the Newsarama stories
The Comic Journal’s messageboards: You’d think they could keep the flame-wars, and the arrogant snobbiness down a bit. TCJ is absolutely my favorite comics news magazine, but these boards are a PITA.
WizardWorld: The Mouth of Hell. Seriously. Mouth-breather magnet, and only barely moderated, as far as I can tell. Almost no conversation of interest here, unless you are willing to lose a lot of brain cells to dig deep. Losing brain cells can be fun on occasion, though.
Borderline:
Loads of interviews.
Comic Annotations and Bibliographies: Michael and Peter Karpas have assembled a very complete site tracking comic book bibliographies and annotations from around the web. It also includes extremely detailed biblios for Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, Matt Wagner, Kevin Smith, and Mike Carey.
Comics International: The UK comic magazine’s site.
The Comics Reader: Commentary and stuff.
Comics Worth Reading: Johanna Draper Carlson’s excellent review site.
Digital Webring: More comics news and links.
Fanboy Rampage: Jeff's too bashful to put all of them up yet, but he'll sure as hell plug 'em here!
Fourth Rail: Randy & Don review the week in comics.
iComics: Interviews and news.
ICv2: Comics business analysis.
Indy Magazine: A fine site focusing on independent comics and their creators.
Ninth Art: Intelligent commentary on comics.
Popimage: Interviews and reviews.
The Savage Critic: Yes, it is self-referential to link back to our own reviews, but no one person reviews more comics a week than our own Brian Hibbs.
Savant Magazine: Lots of good commentary here.
Sequential Tart: Focused on comics from a woman’s point of view.
The Spinner Rack: All the reviews you could possibly want.
Tilting at Windmills: More self-referentiality, but it is our link page, so what are you going to do? Dozens of columns on the comics industry and business practices by CE’s own Brian Hibbs.
